LAW 631: International Trade Law

This course provides an introduction to the public international law of international trade and the major issues raised by contemporary international trade policies. Students examine the multilateral and regional trade treaties and associated law of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and the World Trade Organization (WTO), as well as the European Union and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The course also includes a survey of the United States trade law, including U.S. custom laws and import relief laws. Within the basic theme of globalization, the course examines the relationship between the international trade regime and third world or developing states, the nexus between trade and environment, and the tensions among trade, labor, and human rights.
