Gary Brown chairs Baker Donelson's Business Department, which includes the securities and mergers and acquisitions practice groups. A nationally known expert in securities regulation, Professor Brown has extensive experience in SEC and stock exchange regulatory compliance and corporate governance, as well as accounting, corporate investigation, public disclosure and investor relations issues. He is a frequent instructor and speaker at seminar and securities programs, including those for the Practising Law Institute, and the author of numerous articles and publications, including PLI’s book, Soderquist on the Securities Laws (formerly Understanding the Securities Laws). During 2002, Professor Brown served as Special Counsel (Minority) to the United States Senate's Governmental Affairs Committee in regards to the Enron investigation. While serving in the Senate, he also provided advice to the Committee on aspects of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act while the legislation was being debated in the Senate. He currently is the general counsel to the Ethics and Compliance Officer Association, the world’s largest organization of ethics and compliance professionals.
At Vanderbilt, Professor Brown teaches Securities Regulation.
