H. Lee Barfield is a partner with the law firm of Bass Berry & Sims, which has offices in Nashville, Knoxville and Memphis. Professor Barfield has practiced law for 34 years. He is a business litigator with substantial experience in a broad variety of complex and often high-profile business and health law cases, including defense of class actions.
Professor Barfield has served as president of the Nashville Bar Association in 1985, as a member of the Advisory Commission to the Supreme Court of Tennessee on the Rules of Civil Procedure from 1982 to 1986, and as a member and president of the Board of Law Examiners of Tennessee from 1988 through 2000. He is a member of the American, Tennessee and Nashville Bar Associations.
He and other authors wrote the article "Providing a Safe Harbor for Those Who Play by the Rules: The Case for a Strong Regulatory Compliance Defense," 2008 Utah Law Review 115-57 (2008).
At Vanderbilt, Professor Barfield teaches Professional Responsibility.
