Formerly an associate with the Nashville law firm of Brewer, Krause, and Brooks, Brenda. Phillips has taught legal writing at the Law School since 1999. While in private practice she represented insurance defense clients primarily in the areas of general personal injury, medical malpractice, contracts, worker's compensation and products liability. Her practice emphasized pre-trial preparation for, and post-trial appellate advocacy of, complex litigation involving multiple parties. Before entering law school, Professor Phillips worked with the Tennessee Department of Corrections in a residential treatment center for troubled youth and with the Department of Paroles as a parole officer. She has taught courses in ancient civilizations, literature and creative writing to tutorial groups of home-schooled high school students.
