Before joining Vanderbilt as a legal writing instructor in 2005, Kelly Murray practiced commercial litigation in Chicago for six years before cofounding a craft and children’s product design, licensing, manufacturing and distribution company. As an undergraduate, Murray spent two academic terms in tutorials at Oxford University and served as a research assistant for a member of Parliament in Britain’s House of Commons during the 1987 General Election in the United Kingdom. While pursuing her law studies, she was a teaching fellow at Harvard College. Her background includes product design, and she has licensed or sold products and designs to major national manufacturers and stores, including Toys R Us/Babies R Us, Meijer Stores, the JoAnn Stores, QVC, Crayola®/Binney & Smith, Springs Industries. Her innovative craft and juvenile products have won numerous awards, including the National Parenting Center Seals of Approval, Dr. Toy Awards/100 Best Children’s Products, and NAPPA (National Parenting Publication Award). She currently serves as a licensing agent and marketing consultant to consumer product manufacturers and professional organizations.
