The Federalist Society promotes the intellectual exchange of views concerning current legal and public policy interests. The society is open to all students and is founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be. The society seeks to promote an awareness of these principles and to further their application while maintaining an equal awareness of other points of view. Leading scholars from all legal, political, and social perspectives are regularly invited to speak on a variety of issues in both lectures and symposia.
